Redis
Behind the scenes and databases

Redis

A tool that speeds up software by keeping frequently opened pages and information ready.

Why do we use it?

Recalculating the same information from the database every time a page opens slows software down. Redis keeps frequently requested information ready, so pages keep loading fast as the number of visitors grows.

What's in it for you

What does it bring to your project?

Pages load fast even at busy times

The load on the database goes down

Time-consuming jobs run in the background, so users don't wait

The site doesn't slow down on sale days

In detail

Redis is a free tool that keeps information in memory that can be read very quickly. It's used alongside the database, not instead of it.

For example, on an e-commerce site, the list of best-selling products on the home page isn't recalculated for every visitor; it's calculated once and kept in Redis. That's why the site doesn't slow down on sale days.

We also use it to queue up time-consuming jobs like sending emails, preparing reports or issuing invoices. The user carries on without waiting for these jobs to finish; they're completed in the background.

Not every project needs it. We add it to software with high visitor numbers or a lot of background work.

What we use it for

  • 1High-traffic e-commerce sites
  • 2Sending emails and preparing reports in the background
  • 3Instant notification systems
  • 4Managing user sessions
